AVT Production
The Turntable
Production Role: Director / Technical Director
For this production, I played the combined role of Director and Technical Director. This is common for small productions where additional personnel aren't available. As the director, my primary role was to communicate with the camera ops to achieve a good shot and call the shot. Fulfilling the role of technical director, I had to operate the Ross Carbonite switcher to change the camera output to the PGM feed as I readied and took the shots that the camera ops had composed and selected the appropriate camera input keeping shot juxtaposition in mind.
Additionally, as the director, I was responsible for creating the rundown and handling rehearsals. Being the technical director, I was the video team lead and had to ensure that all the gear worked and all systems were set up correctly. The video engineer and I made sure the lighting on stage was sufficient for the cameras to deliver the highest picture quality and configure them to deliver the best-reproduced image with the truest and most correct representation of colors.
This position came with a lot of responsibility and pressure to make sure the final product lived up to professional standards. The whole crew worked together with each position contributing equally to produce the product that we have been able to deliver. This production was a great learning opportunity and each member of the group was able to deliver their best despite this being the first time working on such a production for most of them.
